Live Feed - Tuesday, June 19
- The players are all in the living room, discussing…. trolleys, hovercraft…. Erica says that a trolly is the dumbest option other than a little red wagon, but I don’t know what they’re trying to do. Oh! Zombie apocalypse! Obviously, Apollo and Erica are right - the answer is a hovercraft.
When running from zombies, is this what you want?
- I really wish Ori would talk faster. Anyway, she tells them that they’re doing a spelling bee. Erica informs us that she was a spelling runner-up seven years in a row. Ori is going to tell us which pair of words each player got, and now we have to vote on which specific word.
- Holly looks terrified, like she might crap in her pants.
- “If you get it right, you’re a genius. If you get it wrong, you’ll be send to prison.” Ha! “Just kidding, but if a bunch of 11 year olds can do it….”
- Andrea: repulsive or agreeable. I’m a little bummed that she got the easiest words on the list (as far as I can remember right now, with minimal coffee and no sleep). And, of course, she got it, because that’s an easy word to spell.
- Joy tells us that, due to her nurse training, she has forgotten how to spell all words. That’s not really how it works.
- Glad to see that Ori is defining the word and letting them hear it in a sentence.
- Apollo: Righteous or ignominious. Why does he get to hear the pair in advance? That’s really not fair.
- Ashley: Congenial or nauseating?
- HA! Gene asks them to post the words on the TV to make sure they heard them correctly. Well-played, Gene. Except you failed.
- Apollo is asking if anyone else knows how to spell the word, and half of them are talking it out to help him. That seems unfair to Andrea. Of course, her words were really easy, but that’s not the point. Either way, Apollo gets it wrong. There is a long, awkward pause for no apparent reason. We’ve already been asked to vote for Ashley, and I am sure that ABC knows how the word is spelled. Did he hit some random alternative spelling? Erica tells him that he was right and, and FINALLY, Ori says that it was wrong. Apollo asks for the spelling and is ignored.
- They show the spelling, and everyone gets mad that she pronounced the word incorrectly. Ori admits that he was wrong, but his… Now, they’re arguing over how he spelled it. Let me help. I-G-N-O-M-I-N-O-U-S. That’s what he said. You’re welcome.
- Ori totally spoke to Ashley faster. Is she reading my blog? Hi, Ori!!! Ashley gets “nauseating” and she is correct. I think the person who yelled “A-L-E-X” is correct. I believe it was Erica.
- I usually don’t like green and purple together, but I’m digging Stephanie’s scarf and dress combination.
- Erica: loquacious or despondent. She says, “One of them means, ‘never shuts up.’” She is correct. Dr. Fluffles wants to help her spell. Erica correctly spells “loquacious.” I really wanted Holly to get that word.
- Gene: Chivalrous or iniquitous. For some reason, I can’t see the options to vote. Gene just said that he knows how to spell iniquitous, so maybe the viewers could have voted for the other one. He gets it.
- Holly: Debonair or unscrupulous. She still looks terrified. She says that she knows how to spell debonair, but I think the voting is already done. She got it, which is why I object to giving them the words early.
- Jeffrey: Obtuse or audacious. He knows it, and he nails it, in proper spelling bee format, without hesitation.
- Ori tells us that she’s a nice “person.” Seriously, I’m TeamOri.
- Joy: Malevolent or benevolent. She’s worried about her ability to spell, so she shakes her ass for the camera. She asks for points for knowing that it was the bad guy’s name in Sleeping Beauty, but that was Maleficent, so she loses. Anyway, she got the word right, and I’m not terribly surprised. She’s not as dumb as she looks.
- Kevin: ingenuous or disingenuous. He tells us that he has no college degree. “D-I-S-I-N-genuous.” Awesome. He tries again, and he gets it. I thought he missed a “u”, but he said it quickly, and I’m not going back.
- I’m starting to wonder if I’m the only one voting. I gues
- Mike: Pragmatic or philosophical. Ori does NOT appreciate the “F-U-C-K” that comes out of Mike’s mouth. I do, though, so thanks for the laugh, Mike. He also gets it.
- Robin: Humorous or morose. Robin does this whole “I’m not a good speller” act that makes me like her less, because it’s so obviously fake.
- Stephanie: Guileless or guileful. She says that she’s more about numbers than letters, and Mike tells her that she’ll be kicked out of the next Mensa meeting if she does it wrong. She actually does get it wrong, and they all start mocking her for being a genius. I wonder if Mensa offers refunds.
- I was really hoping that someone would spell both. Ori says that it’s good that they aren’t being letter graded. Apollo gives her crap for saying the word wrong, and she says that she sometimes drinks during these events.
- Which headline should the players discuss? Something to do with Amy Winehouse or Stay-at-Home Dads. I sincerely don’t care, so I’m not voting.
- Apollo says that “stay at home” is the future, with the internet. And Stephanie says that it’s not about running an internet business from home.
- Mike was a stay-at-home dad, only running his business on the weekends. That makes sense. I imagine there aren’t a lot of Tuesday bar mitzvahs.
- Erica suggests that maybe women should be paid as much as men. She is correct.
- Joy talks about how the roles of families in general are changing, and that you should do what works for your family.
- Andrea looks very uncomfortable. I’m not clear on why, though, because I seem to remember reading somewhere that she has a job. Erica talks about how there should be equal pay for equal work. Andrea is hemming and hawing… it’s like she’s afraid to give an opinion. She says that she has a specific role, and, essentially, she’s upset that society requires two incomes, because a woman’s place is in the home. Then she makes it sound like, because she wants to be with her family full-time, everyone should. So, she has to backpedal more. And then she steps in it. She should stop talking. Maybe someone should explain to her that feminism involves the right to make a choice. “I don’t think it’s a bad thing for dads to want to be with their families….”
- Erica is very offended by the idea that, because women give birth, they’re more nurturing than men and that men are not properly equipped to raise children. She also gets an honorable mention for using the phrase, “propogating the myth.” <-- Not just a dumb blonde.
- And, now, we’re talking about gender roles. Jeffrey in particular is upset by this idea that we have to put men and women in set roles.
- Joy thinks that all children deserve a constant, stay at home caregiver in the beginning. In a perfect world, that would be wonderful, but most of us can’t afford it. Joy does say that her daughter was in daycare. But then she talks about how part of family planning is to ensure that someone can stay home to care for the child. I think Joy thinks that we’re all rich, because she’s talking about staying at home with the kids vs. a jacuzzi.
- I think her point is getting lost, so she finally comes out with it. Daycare is so expensive that many women don’t make any more than they spend. But, like Mike and Erica said, when it comes across as, “Poor people shouldn’t have kids,” she just sounds like a bitch. She does a pretty good job of explaining herself, though.
- Now Joy is upset about nursing homes.
- They start talking about the economy, the way Europe does it, health care, equality, etc. Then, we’re back to whether people want to be at home with their children.
- Oh, God. Now Andrea is suggesting that in a home where both parents work, they value money more than they’re children. Are we absolutely positive we can’t vote to punch her in the face? Stephanie points out that most families can’t make that decision if they want to eat.
- When Joy was working in the hospital they only gave health insurance to full-time employees, which sucks. Joy asks Kevin what he thinks, because he’s sleeping. Kevin says he’s just glad when fathers care for their children at all. Finally, something I can agree with. Fathers should support their children.
- Erica is hoping that changes in society can change the courting structure…. she’s afraid that men don’t see her as maternal. I want Erica to find love! Ori interrupts her, though, so we’ll never hear the end of that thought.
- We vote on whether to give Billboard results or baseball scores. While the viewers vote, Joy offers to rub Gene’s butt. Huh. I don’t really want to see that.
- Andrea is whining that no one agrees with her. Kevin tells her that he usually does. Then they talk about mutual listening and respect because, kumbaya, they all love each other.
- Ori tells them sports scores. The Cubs won! Yay! Oh, wait. I can look that up any time I want. Gene sends a shout out to mock his friends, because the Cubs kicked ass. Nice.
- Ori tells us there will be a special guest tomorrow. They hope it’s Gary Busey, but it’s probably Alex. Ugh.
- This was the first live feed without Alex, and also the most interesting. Coincidence? I think not.
